Description
Key features
- Antimicrobial coating: The “I.C.” stands for “Infection Control.” These catheters are coated with a Bacti-Guard silver alloy and a hydrogel, which is designed to reduce bacterial adherence and minimize biofilm formation, reducing the risk of catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs).
- 3-way functionality: It has three separate channels, or lumens:
- Drainage: For the continuous drainage of urine.
- Inflation: For inflating the small balloon near the tip that secures the catheter in the bladder.
- Irrigation: For flushing the bladder with saline or other fluids to clear clots or debris.
- 100% silicone construction: This makes the catheter soft, flexible, and biocompatible, which is beneficial for patients with latex sensitivity. The silicone is also less prone to irritation and encrustation compared to latex.
- Clear shaft: The transparency of the silicone shaft allows for a visual check of urine flow, helping to confirm correct placement in the bladder.
- Lubricious surface: The hydrogel coating creates a smooth surface to reduce friction and improve patient comfort during insertion and removal.
- French sizes: The catheter is available in multiple sizes to accommodate different patient needs. The “French” size (Fr) is a measurement of the catheter’s outer diameter.
- Balloon capacity: Standard balloon capacities for the Lubri-Sil I.C. catheters are 5cc or 30cc, depending on the specific model.
